Denne måneden begynte du i barnehagen.

Week #34: Home on sick leave

5 days after I got vaccinated against the new influenza, it was actually on the way home from one of our date nights, I started having problems breathing properly, and I felt like shit. Yes, I said it: Shit. I crawled to bed shivering while trying not to get hysterical that it felt like I was gonna pass out from lack of oxygen. So I managed to take some pain killers and get some sleep.

The next day I called in sick, and then I read on the Norwegian Institute of Public Health’s website that pregnant women need to call their doctors if they get sick. A week back they were wondering if Norway had a different strain of the virus since there are more sick people here than in other countries, but let me tell you this: I know why! When I called my doctor’s office and told them who I was and that I had flu-like symptoms I was told that: “Well, then you just need to stay in bed until you get better!” I was a bit put off by the reply and said a little quiter that I had read that I was supposed to call since I was pregnant. And then she just said: “Oh, but then you need to get an appointment today!” So I did. But the doctor didn’t think I had the flu, but gave me sick leave for 11 days.

So here I am. My lungs hurt like hell when I cough, but the fever is gone, and if I don’t walk outside I have no problems breathing. I’m not welcome at work for another week cause they are afraid of getting sick too (which I don’t blame them for), so I sit here, playing FarmVille on Facebook, browsing the Internet for calendars and other things cute, and eat clementines. Could be worse.

Our little baby girl is having a blast though. Since I’m not moving too much nowadays, she’s awake more often than she usually is, so she’s kicking and squirming like there’s no tomorrow. I usually sleep through the night without having to get up to pee, but the past nights I’ve woken up cause she’s tossing and turning, and there’s a moving lump showing on my belly. I groan, cause, well, it hurts, so Husband wakes up. His response is always a cheerful: “Oh, hahaha, would you look at that!” Then he gently strokes the foot or whatever it is she’s using to try to make a way out of the womb with (I always imagine one of the aliens in the, uhm, Alien movies, when she does that), until she stops.

Date night #5, 6 and 7

Ehm, so I’m a little behind on the date night reports…

#5 was spent home with Fiancé and nausea, but we ordered Chinese take away to celebrate that my job finally got permanent. I’d been a substitute since I started working two years ago, and just weeks after I had to tell my boss that I was pregnant, she gave me a permanent job. How fab isn’t that?! I couldn’t eat much of the food though, but it wasn’tt too good in my opinion either. Ordered from East Kitchen, and I wasn’t too sorry I was sick and couldn’t eat much anyway.

#6 was spent at the movies cause of the last date night and since I wasn’t feeling well enough to eat out. After trying to get Fiancé to listen to Angels and Demons on audiobook (and we almost got to the end after about a year) we decided to go to the cinema for our date night. The movie was good, but I disliked the fact that they didn’t follow the book and the parts they could (but that’s water under the bridge now).

#7 was once again spent in Trysil, and after wasting most of the day around the cabin, we only found one place that was open: Bøes Bistro. The food was okay, but pricy. I’m hoping our next date night will be better than the three of the last combined.

Date night #4

Our forth date night went down a couple of days later than planned because I was on call (what else?) the 3rd. Although it was Fiancé’s turn to find a place he had me do it. I took him to this place I had seen last year, with a lighting palm tree and multicoloured lights outside: Bombay Darbar. While choosing our meals the waitress, who never smiled at us, (who I suspect wasn’t in a bad mood or anything, she just looked that way) asked Chistian if he wanted his food medium or hot, and while looking at me she just suggested that I’d go for the hot sauce. I asked: “Is it hot-hot? Or just… Hot?” Which she helpfully answered: “Yes.” So I went for it, and let me tell you, it was HOT. Like in hot-hot. Even hotter than the Very Hot Chili on the last place. But the food was goood. Fiancé said it was by far the best Indian or even Asian food he had eaten, so he started planning who to take with us to eat there again (as the rule of date nights is that we’re eating on different places each time).

In other words: Very much recommended.

Date night #3

Since we were in Trysil we went to this little Chinese restaurant called China Restaurant. For the first time in my life I’ve been at a restaurant where we were the only guests. It was a strange experience, but after an hour or so we realized that we were on Oslo time and the citizens of Trysil are going out a little bit later than us :) Anyway, I had this veggie wok that wasn’t too hot, so I decided to add a little hotness to it. On the table was a little jar of chili sauce with the label “Very hot chili”. I thought that since chili itself is hot, and the label not saying “Chili” or “Hot chili”, but “Very hot chili”, this must be VERY hot chili. So I had only a few drops on my plate. Yum! But on my next portion I wrongly calculated the food:very hot chili ratio and thought, for the first time in my life, that food could make me cry. After binging down on rice I managed to breathe again, but I’d do it again — it was that good. I wish I knew how to make that at home.

Five days in Trysil was good for my health after a horrible couple of days at work. We just hang out eating lots of junk, celebrating Fiancé’s birthday, having the first barbecue of the year, taking a road trip to Sweden to buy more junk, and talking more about the wedding (which we have decided on now, but that’s a whole other post).

Now I’m gonna spend three days in Harstad, probably eating more junk :)

Date night #2 + going out with the girls

Some of the girls from work decided it was about time for us to go out again, so 10 of us went to Sahara Beduin for dinner. I love dining at new resturants! This was a pleasant surprise as it was very authentic Arabic (we were sitting on the floor on small cushions and had belly dancers dancing between meals. The food was good, the negative things I have to say about the place was that the belly dancing music was too loud, the waiter was semi rude and it took hours between the two meals we had. Seriously.

Boyfriend and I had our second date night on the 4th this month as I was on call the day before. Went to Sagene Lunchbar where I had a yummy salad cause I wasn’t that hungry. A plus for the atmosphere and good service.

(I’m turning this blog into a resturant review blog.) (Not.)

Date night #1

I introduced “date nights” for Boyfriend and me on the 3rd of every month as we need to hang out just the two of us. It’s actually our 1.5 year anniversary today ;) I both feel like it’s ages since we met and also just yesterday.

We went out for dinner at Rehmans which was very good, and highly recommended. Then we just went home, saw a movie and fell asleep on the couch. :)

Ah, life.
